Today I’m featuring one of my all time favorite series: Garth Nix’s Old Kingdom series. Set in Ancelstierre (the Old Kingdom) and a world very similar to our our own at the turn of the last century this series concerns itself with the line of Abhorsens—necromancers who use Charter Magic to bind dangerous free magic creatures and keep the Dead from encroaching into the world of the living. 🔔 I am very happy to have the original Dillon covers on the core trilogy (Sabriel, Lirael, Abhorsen) and the sequel novella Across the Wall. Since then Nix has also written a prequel (Clariel) and a final book in the series (Goldenhand). The release of those two books were two of the most exciting moments of my life as a reader. The additional books really flesh out the trilogy and give it the ending it always deserved. 🔔 Have you read this series yet? If not, what are you waiting for? 🔔 My apartment has terrible lighting and it was hard to frame a photo with so many books. Swipe over to see my experiments with cropping and the original unedited shot in my final photo. Do you edit your photos a lot? 🔔 #instabooks #currentlyreading #amreading #instareads #bookgram #bookworm #bookblogging #bookblogger #bookstagrammer #bibliophile #booklove #bookphotography #instabook #reading #reader #booktography #bookstagram #igreads #booksofinstagram #goodreads #bookaholic #bookish #bookishfeature #bookstafeatures #bookstagramfeature #readersofinstagram #unitedbookstagram #garthnix #oldkingdom #sabriel

Do you ever go to launch parties or author events? 👑 Being in New York I’m lucky enough to be able to attend quite a few events including last night’s launch for @ladyhawkins’ newest #royalsbook last night at @henribendel. 👑 Hearing more about Hawkins’ writing process and inspiration was great and it was so delightful to meet her. We also got the scoop that Royals is the start of a series and I am here for it! 👑 Swipe over to see some pics from the event including this gorgeous #bookstagram station, cupcakes featuring Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, and a rather atrocious photo booth backdrop pic of me. 👑 While you do that I’ll be checking out the latest gossip in Crown Town and reading more of this charming book. 👑 #instabooks #currentlyreading #amreading #instareads #bookgram #bookworm #bookblogging #bookblogger #bookstagrammer #bibliophile #booklove #bookphotography #instabook #reading #reader #booktography #igreads #booksofinstagram #goodreads #bookaholic #bookish #bookishfeature #bookstafeatures #bookstagramfeature #readersofinstagram #unitedbookstagram #rachelhawkins #henribendel

Do you ever read nonfiction? 📚 I’m trying to read more of it this year and I’m glad one of the books I chose is Votes For Women: American Suffragists and the Battle for the Ballot by Winifred Conkling. 📚 This narrative nonfiction is a thorough history of the women’s suffrage movement in the US from the Seneca Falls convention through to the decision that ratified the nineteenth amendment. 📚 Conkling’s writing is top notch and well researched. The end of the book is filled with endnotes and resources. Conkling also covers some of the uglier moments of the suffrage movement thoughtfully including the ways in which the suffrage movement divided when faced with choosing between votes for women or votes for African American men. 📚 I’m hoping to finish this one today and even knowing the outcome (spoiler: Women get the vote) it’s a bit a of a nail biter. 📚 #instabooks #currentlyreading #amreading #instareads #bookgram #bookworm #bookblogging #bookblogger #bookstagrammer #bibliophile #booklove #bookphotography #instabook #reading #reader #booktography #bookstagram #igreads #booksofinstagram #goodreads #bookaholic #bookish #bookishfeature #bookstafeatures #bookstagramfeature #readersofinstagram #unitedbookstagram #nonfiction #feminism #suffrage
