ALA and the Oscars for books

It’s that time again. The American Library Associaion’s Midwinter Conference is almost here. Unfortunately for a lot of East Coasters like me, that conference is way away in San Diego. Next week ALA’s Youth Media Awards (The Printz, Caldecott, Newbery, etc. AKA the Oscars of the youth book world) will be announced on January 10, 2011. (ALA members belonging to YALSA* decide the Printz each year. Members of ALSC** determine the Caldecott/Newbery winners.)

If you want to follow the awards follow @alayma on Twitter (though I warn you from following a previous year the tweets are fast and furious) or watch the #alayma hashtag on Twitter. I’m excited to see if any of my sleeper contenders make the cut!
