After things got crazy at work a few days ago:
Bear: “Today is off to a good start. I tripped and fell on my way to work and now this.”
Miss Print: “You fell?”
Bear: “Yeah. People came and looked at me to see if I was okay.”
Miss Print: “See, if you’re a girl people come and forcibly pick you up.”
True story: I had a bad fall and landed on my face a few years ago. I wanted to just lie there and collect myself but this construction worker was walking by and was adamant that I had to get up right then. So he lifted me up before I could protest while his friend picked up the books I had been carrying that fell while another unrelated woman asked if I was all right. My lasting legacy from this fall is a strong belief in the kindness of strangers and a bum knee that aches whenever it’s damp out. . . .
